Convertible car seats: safety first, price second
Every other guide on this site ranks by price. This one doesn't — because a cheaper seat with a worse safety rating isn't a deal. Below: the recall tracker, then seats grouped by their NHTSA rating, with live-verified prices inside each tier.

Heads up: 2 stars is the lowest rating in this guide. Also verify your model number isn't CC321 (the recalled Sprint variant).
Under federal investigation
Not a recall — but serious enough to separate from the rankings.
Evenflo Revolve360

Walmart: $349.00
Our take: with an open federal investigation into the seat separating from its base, we'd wait for NHTSA's conclusion before buying this one.
How to shop for a convertible seat
- Rear-face as long as the seat allows. Every seat here rear-faces; the AAP advises keeping kids rear-facing until they max out the seat's rear-facing limits, not just to the legal minimum.
- Fit beats features. A $180 seat installed correctly protects better than a $500 seat installed wrong. If you can, test-install in your car before buying — Target and Walmart both take returns.
- Check the expiration date. Car seats expire (usually 6–10 years from manufacture, printed on the seat). Never buy used unless you know its full history — a crashed seat can look fine and protect badly.
- Register your seat. The manufacturer notifies you directly if it's ever recalled.
How we priced this
Unlike our diaper/formula/wipe guides (regular shelf prices), car seat prices move too fast for that — so we show the current price and flag sales with the was-price. Every Target and Walmart price above was verified live on Oct 4, 2026. Amazon blocked our price check (bot-check), so Amazon rows are stale baselines marked unverified. Prices were checked in the evening; car seat sales rotate frequently.
